We're both academics at the university — Katharina lectures in environmental science, Paul in linguistics — and between lectures, research trips, and our two little ones (2 and 4), our week is a genuine juggling act. We need a calm, capable au pair who's comfortable holding the fort during a busy teaching week, and who enjoys outdoor time as much as our kids do.
We live in a quiet, green suburb with the Black Forest practically starting at our garden fence. Mornings mean kindergarten and crèche drop-off, afternoons are forest walks, playgrounds, or just muddy boots in the garden, and evenings are (usually) calm. We're a relaxed, low-pressure household that values fresh air over screen time.
Family Unique Experience
Freiburg is one of Germany's sunniest, greenest cities, right at the edge of the Black Forest with hiking and cycling trails starting minutes from home. It's also close to the French and Swiss borders, so Strasbourg and Basel are both easy day trips, and vineyard villages surround the city on every side.
